Sustainability highlights

Beyond major projects, Facilities Management integrates sustainability into day-to-day operations and campus improvements. Recent initiatives include:

Campus-wide electrical metering on the Loyola Campus

A comprehensive electrical metering system is being installed across the Loyola Campus to improve energy monitoring, identify efficiency opportunities and support progress toward Concordia’s sustainability and climate goals.

Smart, energy-efficient research laboratory 

An existing campus space in the Henry F. Hall (H) Building was transformed into a modern chemical laboratory with demand-controlled ventilation that improves safety while reducing energy consumption. Designed as a living lab, the space also supports teaching and research in sustainable building operations. 

High-efficiency equipment and heat recovery 

Mechanical equipment in the J.W. McConnell (LB) Building has been upgraded with high-efficiency systems and heat recovery technology to improve energy performance, reduce consumption and lower greenhouse gas emissions. 

Building performance optimization 

Ongoing recommissioning projects in the Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex (EV) and the Faubourg (FB) Building optimize heating, cooling and ventilation systems to improve occupant comfort while reducing energy use and environmental impact. 

Heating system modernization 

Legacy heating equipment in the Loyola Jesuit Hall and Conference Centre (RF) has been replaced with high-efficiency systems that improve reliability, increase energy performance and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 

Hall Building terrace redevelopment 

The redesigned Hall Building terrace integrates sustainable landscape features that support biodiversity, incorporate stormwater management and create a more resilient campus environment. 

Awards & recognition
