IN MEMORIAM SERVICES

Concordia offers support in times of need.

How we can help

The death of a Concordian is a tragic event that can affect people in different ways. As in all other instances, Concordia is committed to acting with respect, sensitivity and compassion in helping its community members to navigate this difficult time, and has a wide range of support resources available.

To report the passing of an individual that occurred on campus or during a university event, please contact Campus Safety and Prevention Services immediately at (514) 848-2424 extension 3717.

For all other deaths of Concordia community members that took place off campus, please send an email to inmemoriam@concordia.ca. From there, Concordia can provide advice and support, when appropriate. The university will also inform relevant members of the community and ensure that units within Concordia are aware of their responsibilities.

Once the university has been advised of the passing of a community member, the Special Advisor on Campus Life and Supports mobilizes units and departments across the university to work together to respond in a well-coordinated and efficient manner. A Response Team is called upon when necessary. The Response Team is responsible for leading, organizing and coordinating Concordia’s efforts with other university units and departments.

More than anything, the university is committed to responding to the death of one of its community members in a compassionate and sensitive manner. This includes respecting the privacy of the individual who has passed away and providing appropriate and comprehensive support to the community to cope with death.

You are not alone.

If you are a student, there are numerous resources available to support you during this difficult time.

Staff and faculty members covered by the Concordia Health Plan have access to counselling resources year-round through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

All Concordians leave a legacy while at the university. Please send an email to inmemoriam@concordia.ca should you want to commemorate a deceased member of the community.

The Special Advisor on Campus Life and Supports will liaise with appropriate units at the university. Concordia will also respect the privacy of the deceased member and follow the wishes of their family, close friends or next of kin.

Natural disasters, acts of terrorism, war and other tragedies can not only affect members of the Concordia community but also their family and friends.
