Community Care & Compassion
Supporting one another through grief and change
Community Care & Compassion is a program that offers compassionate spaces where students, faculty and staff can come together to share grief, support one another through change, and build caring community.
The program is overseen by Concordia’s Multi-faith and Spirituality Centre (MfSC) and co-facilitated with the Equity Office and other partners.
Why we need community care & compassion
As our university community navigates a complex world often marked by tragedy or life-changing events such as natural disasters, war, mass violence incidents or the death of a loved one, many of us carry heavy feelings or reactions. Concordia acknowledges that this wide range of emotions and experiences calls for collective care and remembrance.
Community Care & Compassion complements existing mental health services and stands alongside campuswide initiatives like Courageous Conversations and Solidarity Dialogue Training to create shared spaces for empathetic connection.
What to expect
Students, faculty and staff can come together in non-judgmental spaces and build a caring community during times of loss and change. Participants can engage with the program in many ways:
- Share losses: Come together to acknowledge personal or collective grief.
- Engage in facilitated experiences: Join guided activities such as group reflections, ritual and creative practices, or shared readings, led by university and community facilitators.
- Pursue independent reflection: Take a moment on your own for journaling, meditation, art-making or other personal rituals.
- Plan memorial initiatives: Consult with internal experts to design and host your own campus gatherings, remembrance.
How to participate
Community Care & Compassion sessions are offered regularly throughout the academic year and featured in the Equity Office events listings.
