Honorary degree citation - Casimir G. Stanczykowski*

By: J. Smola, June 1972

Mr. Vice-Chancellor:

I have the honour to present to you Mr. Casimir G. Stanczykowski, a gentleman of distinction.

Mr. Stanczykowski is the President and General Manager of Chateau Broadcasting Company Limited, which owns and operates radio station CFMB. He was the founder of CFMB in 1962, and it is through his activities in radio broadcasting that he became involved with Sir George Williams University. In 1965, Mr. Stanczykowski was instrumental in starting Radio Sir George - produced, announced, and directed by students - the first and only university program on any Montreal AM radio station. During the course of all these years he has provided Sir George Williams University students with not only continued support of their radio broadcasting efforts, but part time and summer employment.

Mr. Stanczykowski is a man who seems to shine in whatever he does. During the Second World War he was decorated many times for his service in the underground forces in Europe. His career in Canadian radio started with production of Canada's first continental language broadcast and led to the founding and successful managing of one of Montreal's leading radio stations. He is active in numerous community societies and many of them have bestowed on him awards for his outstanding contributions - among them The Canadian Polish Congress, the Ukrainian Canadian Veterans' Association, The Lebanese Canadian Society, the Italian Community, The Canadian Jewish Congress, and Sir George Williams University's own Students' Association.

With a remarkable career, an active and devoted community life, and a long record of deeply appreciated assistance to our students, Mr. Stanczykowski surely is worthy of recognition of his contribution to Sir George Williams University. Therefore, Mr. Vice-Chancellor, I am honoured to present to you, on behalf of the University Council, and by the authority of the Board of Governors, Mr. Casimir G. Stanczykowski, that you may confer on him the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
