Why study Cybersecurity Engineering?
Our lives rely on complex digital systems. From personal devices to power and transit networks, all digital systems must be secure. Cyberattacks are a growing threat, and thousands of cybersecurity jobs in Canada are waiting to be filled.
Concordia’s Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Cybersecurity Engineering is built for students who want to dive deeper into the infrastructure of cybersecurity. Learn how to secure networks, defend critical systems, and design safe digital solutions using both hardware and software approaches. Going beyond cybersecurity tools, you will study the full engineering lifecycle of secure systems and build a strong foundation in cyber defense, applied cryptography and data, network and systems security.
This program is designed for students who want to develop advanced engineering skills and take on complex technical challenges in cybersecurity. It prepares you for technical and leadership roles in sectors such as information and technology, aerospace, finance, defense, government, transportation and energy.

Program structure
The Bachelor of Engineering in Cybersecurity Engineering takes a minimum of four to five years (120-150 credits) of full-time study, depending on your academic background. It is made up of 40-50 courses, including:
Cybersecurity courses in topics such as secure programming, operating system security, network/mobile security, penetration testing, security governance, malware analysis, AI and cybersecurity
Engineering core courses in math, science, programming, economics and communication
Technical electives based on your interests
General education elective(s)
From day one, you will study how to protect data, prevent cyberattacks and design secure systems. You will also learn about professional ethics, policy and the impact of technology on society.
Co-op and internships
All Cybersecurity students can apply to the Co-op program through Concordia’s Institute for Co-operative Education.
You will have access to:
- Paid co-op work terms with companies or government agencies relevant to your degree
- Internships through the Career Edge (C. Edge) and Accelerated Career Experience Program
- Research placements with professors and partners such as Ericsson and Hydro-Québec
- Summer research jobs through programs like Mitacs, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and others
These experiences help you apply what you learn in class, build your resumé and expand your professional network.
Admission criteria
Minimum cut-off averages and course requirements
- Quebec CEGEP: 25 overall, 26 math, 25 physics
- Admission is based on applicants’ overall, math and physics CRC indicated above and completion of the following classes as part of their DEC: General Chemistry 1; Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra; Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism.
- Students completing one of the eligible technical DECs may qualify for admission without the listed prerequisites. However, if the prerequisites are taken, a minimum of 26 in math and a 25 in physics are required.
- Eligible technical DECs include 420.A0/BO/AA, 244.A0, 243.D0, 243.C0, 243.B0, 243.A0
- Advanced standing may be possible

- High school: B- overall, B- in math, B- in physics
- One math from Pre-Calculus, Calculus, or equivalent
- Grade 12 or university-preparatory physics

- Indigenous Bridging Program: First Nations, Inuit and Métis students who do not meet Concordia’s conventional admission requirements may be eligible for admission through the Kaié:ri Nikawerá:ke Indigenous Bridging Program
- International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma: 27 overall, 4 HL or SL math, 4 HL or SL physics
- one math (Applications and Interpretations HL, Analysis and Approaches HL or Analysis and Approaches SL)
- one of the math or physics courses must be completed at the HL level
- International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (CP): 4.5/7 overall, 4 HL or SL math, 4 HL or SL physics

- one of the math or physics courses must be completed at the HL level
- Additional Career-related Programme (CP) course requirements
- Baccalauréat français: 12 overall, 12 in math, 12 in science
- Required courses:
- Première: Spécialité mathématiques and Spécialité physique-chimie
- Terminale: Spécialité mathématiques (also accepted, Spécialité Physique-Chimie and Mathématiques Complémentaires)

- British system of education (GCE):
- A-levels: At least two A-level exams CD, C in math, C in physics or
- AS-levels: At least 4 AS-level exams with equivalent results or
- BTEC: Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in a related subject area with equivalent results
- Students without math or physics A-levels may be admissible based on AS-level or iGCSE/GCSE/O-Level exam results. Students should include all their exam results from iGCSE (or equivalent) onwards to support their application.
- Additional information for British System of Education (GCE) applicants
- University transfer (internal): 2.5 overall, 2.5 in math/physics, 2.0 in courses offered by the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science
- PHYS 204 or 205 (or equivalent)
- At least two of the following (or equivalent): MATH 203, 204, 205
- University transfer (external): B- overall, B- in math, B- in physics
- Courses in the disciplines of Calculus, Chemistry and Physics
Minimum cut-off averages should be used as indicators. The cut-off data may change depending on the applicant pool. Applicants who meet the stated minimum requirements are not guaranteed admission to these programs.

United States students: A U.S. Federal Student Aid-eligible version of this program is offered. This version meets all U.S. regulations (such as no co-operative education or e-courses) for eligible programs.
