Student representatives on the Concordia Council on Student Life

Help shape student life at Concordia

As a student representative on the Concordia Council on Student Life (CCSL), you'll influence decisions that affect the student experience, support student-led initiatives and collaborate with university leaders to make a positive impact on campus.

What is the CCSL?

The Concordia Council on Student Life (CCSL) is the university's advisory committee dedicated to student life. The committee discusses topics related to student life, allocates funding to student-led initiatives and recognizes the people who make outstanding contributions on campus.

The CCSL membership includes students, faculty, student services staff and university administrators, with an equal number of student and non-student voting members.

There are 10 student representatives on the CCSL:

  • Seven undergraduate students appointed by the Concordia Student Union (CSU)

  • Two graduate students appointed by the Graduate Students' Association (GSA)

  • One student representative from Sustainability Concordia

Why become a student representative?

 As a member of the CCSL, you'll: 

  • Help shape decisions that affect student life
  • Support funding and recognition for student-led initiatives
  • Learn how decisions are made at the university
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, staff and senior university leaders
  • Build leadership and governance experience

You may also be eligible to receive financial compensation through the Committee Participation Recognition Program.

What to expect

Student representatives serve a one-year term from September 1 to August 31.

During your term, you'll attend CCSL meetings approximately once every two months from September to May. Meetings take place in person, on Fridays, and usually alternate between the Sir George Williams and Loyola campuses.

You'll also have the opportunity to serve on CCSL subcommittees: 

  • Special Projects Sub-Committee: Reviews and awards funding requests for student projects according to the CCSL guidelines. 
  • Awards Sub-Committee: Selects the recipients of the CCSL Outstanding Contribution Award. 
  • Student Groups Sub-Committee: Advises on the approval of new student groups and changes to the status of existing groups.

How to apply

Undergraduate students apply through the Concordia Student Union (CSU) and graduate students apply through the Graduate Students' Association (GSA).
