Visual Arts Building space renewal
Upgrades have created flexible teaching and workshop areas to support new Faculty of Fine Arts offerings.
Project overview
Concordia renovated several rooms in the Visual Arts (VA) Building to support the Faculty of Fine Arts’ new Graduate Microprogram and Graduate Certificate in Curatorial Studies and Practices.
The work created dedicated teaching, workshop and support spaces equipped with the infrastructure needed to run the new programs.

Project goals
This project modernized several rooms in the VA Building to create functional, flexible spaces that support teaching, hands-on work and collaborative activities. The upgrades improved the usability and comfort of the areas through better lighting, finishes and layout improvements.
The project also enhanced the overall learning environment by reconfiguring spaces to better accommodate workshops, presentations and group work, and by providing the technical infrastructure needed for a wide range of academic and creative practices.
Other project goals included:
- Updating lighting systems, including new technical grids, spotlighting and modern house lighting.
- Improving room functionality through new flooring, refreshed finishes and reconfigured walls.
- Adding practical features such as new sinks, cabinetry, blinds, magnetic writing surfaces and furniture.
- Refreshing ventilation components, updating heating controls and upgrading select building systems such as electrical outlets, card readers and exit signage.
