Building Bridges: Concordia Hosts High-Level Meeting with Vietnamese Delegation
On November 5, 2025, Concordia University hosted a working meeting with a distinguished delegation from Vietnam. This gathering provided a valuable opportunity to review the achievements of our Concordia–Vietnam initiatives over the past year and to explore new pathways for collaboration. Together, we are strengthening partnerships between universities and industries in both regions to address shared global challenges.
We were privileged to welcome Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director General of the International Cooperation Department at Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, along with Tu Nguyen the Trade Commissioner from Vietnam, the Government of Quebec, representatives from Universities Canada, and numerous industry and academic leaders. These dialogues reaffirm our collective commitment to advancing education, innovation, and sustainable growth through international cooperation.
Hanoi University of Mining and Geology Visit
On November 8, 2024, Concordia welcomed Prof. Tran Thanh Hai, Rector of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, and Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai Nga, Head of the International Office, to meet with Prof. Mourad Debbabi, Dean of the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, Prof. Sarah Turner, Associate Professor, Geography, Planning and Environment, and Julio Sevilla, International Project Manager, and explore potential opportunities for collaboration.
Tra Vinh University Visit
On May 6, 2024, Concordia hosted a delegation from Tra Vinh University to explore potential collaborations between the two institutions. The delegation featured Prof. Pham Tiet Khanh, President of the University Council and President of VACC, Dr. Truong Thi Be Hai, Executive Manager of VACC, and Nguyen Thi Mai Khanh, Director of International Affairs.
Ambassador of Vietnam to Canada Visit
Concordia welcomed His Excellency Pham Vinh Quang, Ambassador of Vietnam to Canada, on November 17, 2023.
During his visit, Ambassador Quang toured Concordia’s facilities, the Cybersecurity Lab and the Next-Generation Cities Institute, where he gained insights into the University’s work in advanced security systems and sustainable urban development.
Inauguration of Canada-ASEAN Business Council’s Office at Concordia
Concordia is proud to host the Canadian office of the Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) at John Molson School of Business. This strategic partnership strengthens Canada's ties with ASEAN nations, providing a platform to advance engagement in the region. An inaugaration ceremony was held in December 2022.
Concordia visits Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)
In November 2022, William Cheaib, Associate Vice-President of International Relations of Concordia University visited the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) in Vietnam to discuss collaborations in the fields of water and energy. The meeting featured Dr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director General, Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development (MoIT), Ms. Tran Thu Hang, Advisor, Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development (MoIT), and Thi Be Nguyen, Executive Director in Canada, Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC).
Binh Duong Province Trade Mission to Montreal
On August 18, 2022, Concordia welcomed a delegation from Binh Duong Province, Vietnam. This trade mission, led by Premier Vo Van Minh and Vice Premier Mai Hung Dung, reflects Binh Duong’s commitment to forging partnerships and supply chain collaborations with Canadian companies.
The visit began with opening remarks from Graham Carr, President and Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University. Continued with presentations on developing Quebec business presence in Vietnam, discussions on opportunities and incentive programs in Binh Duong, and first-hand experiences shared by industry leaders like Dan On, President & CEO of Dan On Food Canada.
The event concluded with a commitment to strengthen economic ties between Canada and Vietnam, paving the way for future collaborations and mutual growth.
