As part of the celebrations of Mexican National day and the 200 years of piano music creation in Mexico, Mexico launched a series of concerts nationally and internationally, including in Montreal at Concordia. The project consists of the assembly, interpretation, and dissemination of 4 music programs for solo piano and 7 piano concertos by Mexican composers of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.
The Mexican Consul in Montreal in collaboration with Concordia held a Piano Recital titled "Mexican Variations" and Reception on the occasion of the celebration of Mexico’s Independency Day held on September 8th, 2022, at the Oscar Peterson Music Hall at the Loyola Campus.
About the Pianist
Fernando Saint Martin studied piano at the INBA Superior School of Music in Mexico, where he graduated with honors. He received a master's degree in piano performance from the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
He received the Zoya Solod Memorial and Schulich Scholarships from McGill University for the best audition for admission to the Master's Degree, Support for Study Abroad and for Interpreters from the National Endowment for Culture and the Arts.
He served as professor at the Conservatory of Music at McGill University. He has performed as a soloist with the MÀV Symphony Orchestra, the Euro Sinfonietta Wien, the Northern Lights Orchestra, the Chamber of Fine Arts Orchestra, the State of Mexico Symphony, the Eduardo Mata University Youth Orchestra, the Michoacán Symphony, the University Symphony of Guanajuato, the Symphony of the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo, the Querétaro Philharmonic, the Aguascalientes Symphony and the Yucatan Symphony among others.
He has premiered several solo piano pieces, some of which have been dedicated to him by Jorge Torres Sáenz, Cristina García Islas, Hebert Vázquez, Liliana Zamora and Samuel Zyman, among other composers.
He has two record productions, the first participating as a pianist with the Mexican Quindecim label and the second as musical co-producer and executive producer with the NAXOS house.
He acted as Deputy Executive Director of OFUNAM from 2014 to 2015 and General Director of Music at UNAM from 2015 to 2020. He is currently a professor in the piano faculty of the UNAM Faculty of Music, as well as a beneficiary of the Scenic Creators program.
