Career questions with Agnès

What do you love most about your work, and what inspired you to pursue this career in the first place?

What I love most about my work is being able to connect with employees and support them in their career journey. It is incredibly rewarding when someone takes the time to say thank you and lets you know that you made a meaningful impact on their experience.

I chose to pursue a career in human resource management because I knew I wanted to work in a people-focused field where I could regularly collaborate with both leaders and employees and make a difference on the ground.

Looking back, what skills have been the biggest gamechangers in your career?

One of the biggest game changers in my career has been learning how to navigate uncertain situations and communicate through them effectively. I will always remember the communication class I took at Concordia, which taught me how to write professional emails and adapt my approach depending on the audience. Those skills have been invaluable in helping me build trust, provide clarity and communicate with impact.

How did Concordia prepare you for your career?

Concordia helped me see how broad and dynamic the field of human resources is, from recruitment and talent development to compensation and benefits, labour relations and more. That foundation gave me a better sense of where my interests were and how I wanted to grow within HR.

What is a standout memory from your time at Concordia?

A standout memory from my time at Concordia was how professional, welcoming and business-oriented the environment felt. I also really appreciated how supportive the professors were, always taking the time during office hours to explain concepts or review assignments. Another highlight was being exposed to different business fields through my COMM courses, which helped me better understand SAP and ultimately opened the door to my first role at a consulting firm specializing in SAP integration and implementation as a talent acquisition coordinator.

If you could give your younger self one powerful piece of advice, what would it be?

If I could give my younger self one powerful piece of advice, it would be to trust the process and not be afraid of change. Some of the most meaningful growth happens when you step into unfamiliar situations and allow yourself to learn along the way.

What’s the most exciting shift happening in your industry right now?

One of the most exciting shifts happening in the HR and talent development space right now is how AI and technology are transforming learning and employee development. We are moving toward more personalized, accessible and data-driven learning experiences, which creates more opportunities to support employees in meaningful and scalable ways.
