I've known for a long time that my dream career would be in sports. Any sports. As someone who first choose the French literature and translation pathway, I soon came to a crossroad at the end of my first degree where I knew I needed to find new studies and work opportunities in order to re-centre myself around working in sports. I had already been working in leisure at the City of Dorval at that point and knew that leisure was where I felt I belonged. This is the story of how I found my home in Recreation and Leisure Studies.
Fast forward to May 2023, when I started an internship for my current employer. I had previously been a referee with Soccer Lac St-Louis, and had also been a soccer player in the region since I was 6 years old. The internship certainly didn't go as planned, but I believe that this is what truly turned it into a success for me. I was offered a full-time position before the end of the 2023 fall semester and have been learning with my peers ever since I took on the position. From attending social media's impact in sports summits, participating in the coordinating of the 2024 National Telus Championship games opposing one of our home clubs against the MLS' very own Toronto FC, going to Jeux du Québec or even more recently attending Canada Soccer's very own Senior National tournaments as a representative of Soccer Québec, each year brings on new challenges and opportunities to play and live the sports that I love.
