Loyola Jesuit Hall and Conference Centre boiler replacements
Upgrades will reduce natural gas consumption on the Loyola Campus by 10 per cent in support of Concordia’s decarbonization goals
Project overview
Concordia is replacing the medium-temperature boilers and a heat recovery unit in the mechanical room of the Loyola Jesuit Hall and Conference Centre (RF) to provide stable, efficient heating for a portion of the Loyola Campus. The new system will include high-efficiency condensing boilers and modifications to the heating network.
The project also includes related structural reinforcements and operational accessibility upgrades.
Timeline
- Fall 2025 to winter 2026
Project goals
This project will reduce natural gas consumption on the Loyola Campus by an estimated 10 per cent in support of Concordia’s decarbonization objectives. It will also provide stable, reliable heating for the Central (CC), Administration (AD) and Psychology (PY) buildings, as well as the Richard J. Renaud Science Complex (SP) and the Centre for Structural and Functional Genomics (GE).
Other project goals include:
- Improved safety and accessibility for staff and contractors
- Simplified operations for Facilities Management teams
- Optimized space in the RF mechanical room by removing outdated equipment
Impacts during construction
The Loyola Jesuit Hall and Conference Centre building will remain open and accessible throughout the project. All existing heating equipment will be operational to ensure minimal impact on the community.
When necessary, service interruptions and any work outside the project area will be coordinated in advance with building users. A construction trailer, toilet and garbage container zone has been installed, and movement of materials between the construction site and the container zone will be managed safely under the supervision of a designated signal operator.
