The Services Sector enjoyed another busy — and productive — year. Our outstanding teams in Budget Planning and Business Development, Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Management, Security, Human Resources and Instructional and Information Technology Services planned and delivered a series of highly significant projects. At the same time, they continued to provide invaluable support to the university community.
Among our many undertakings in 2018-2019 was the launch of Project UNITY, an expansive effort that will transform our human resources and financial services processes, user experience and information systems.
The Office of Sustainability came into its own during the academic year, both as a diverse community initiative and a driving force of the Sustainability Action Plan. One important step was the coordination of in-depth consultations on prioritization and implementation strategies for the Sustainability Policy and the Action Plan.
In 2018-2019, we came up with a new model for addressing space challenges through the Learning Square. The building’s modular classrooms are a modern, creative way to undertake major work planned for the Henry F. Hall Building during the next five years. It also enables us to be flexible and sustainable since the building can be reused during future renovations.
Among our other milestone projects were the delivery of 4TH SPACE, Concordia’s gateway to research and learning activities, and a Student Success Centre redesigned with collaborative and active learning in mind. Now on the 7th floor of the Hall Building, the space is bright, open and inviting. We also took great strides toward the completion of the Applied Science Hub on the Loyola Campus.
During the same period, our bargaining units successfully signed a number of collective agreements thanks to collaborative work with the various unions that represent over 6,000 employees.
These and all of our shared achievements are the result of the teamwork and dedication of our talented staff. Beyond our major accomplishments, the Services Sector team continues its daily work behind the scenes — rarely seen but essential to keep the university functioning smoothly and safely. We take pride in serving Concordia while supporting the needs of the community and the delivery of the academic mission.
