Dorothy Mombrun
Dorothy Mombrun is a Montreal-based artist, art director, curator, and cultural advocate whose work centers on empowering marginalized communities through visual storytelling and collaborative art projects. With a focus on collective memory, healing, and reimagining futures, Mombrun’s practice spans photography, curation, and art education, reflecting her commitment to social justice and community empowerment.
Since 2016, Mombrun has developed a distinctive visual language, using bold colors, light, and shadow to celebrate the vibrancy and resilience of Black women and femmes. Her journey toward self-acceptance and her rejection of negative stereotypes have fueled her mission to uplift her community through art. This ethos is evident in her curated exhibitions, including Aynalem: l’Oeil du Monde (2022, Centre d’Art Diane), Be Yourself (2023-2024, in collaboration with Hoodstock Montreal and the CARE project), and Soulful Embrace: An Ode to Love (2024, Maison de l’Afrique). These projects highlight her ability to create spaces for dialogue, healing, and collective empowerment.
