Zunayet Anis

Supervisor: Elyse Amend

Zunayet Anis is a graduate student in Digital Innovation MA program in Journalism Studies at Concordia University. He completed his BA in Journalism at Concordia, where he discovered a passion for investigative storytelling and public accountability.

During his undergraduate studies, Zunayet made history as the first intern at the Dhaka bureau of Agence France-Presse (AFP). Working on international stories gave him a deep appreciation for fact-based reporting — but also exposed him to the real-world challenges of accessing public information, particularly within large public institutions. That experience sparked a lasting curiosity about how information flows between governments, journalists and the public and how transparency shapes civic trust.

Building on this foundation, his current research focuses on Canada’s Access to Information Act and its potential to shed light on Montréal’s public transit system and its financial situation. Through this work, Zunayet aims to understand how journalistic access to data can reveal the policy decisions that influence essential public services and democratic engagement.
