Career questions with Tina

What do you love most about your work, and what inspired you to pursue this career in the first place?

What I love most is bringing structure and clarity to complex billing processes and making sure revenue is captured accurately and efficiently. I was drawn to finance because of my passion for working with numbers and solving operational problems. That passion naturally led me to a role where I could combine analytics with real impact on the business.

Looking back, what skills have been the biggest gamechangers in your career?

Analytical thinking, automation and clear communication have been gamechangers. Learning tools like Excel VBA and Power BI helped me streamline workflows and uncover inefficiencies. Equally important has been the ability to coordinate with diverse teams and keep stakeholders aligned.

How did Concordia prepare you for your career?

Concordia gave me both the technical skills and the strategic mindset needed in fast-paced environments. The hands-on nature of the program, especially the team projects and data-driven case studies, mirrored the kinds of challenges I face at work today. It helped me become a problem-solver, not just a number-cruncher.

What is a standout memory from your time at Concordia?

One standout memory is meeting people from all around the world and learning from their diverse perspectives. Group projects and class discussions were enriched by our different backgrounds, and that really shaped how I approach teamwork today. It taught me the value of collaboration and seeing problems from multiple angles.

If you could give your younger self one powerful piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t wait until you feel “ready”—take initiative and learn as you go. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. Be proactive and trust your ability to figure things out.

What’s the most exciting shift happening in your industry right now?

The integration of automation and data analytics into billing and project finance is transforming how we work. We’re moving from reactive processes to proactive, data-informed decision-making. It’s exciting to see how technology is reshaping traditionally manual functions like billing into strategic tools for business insight.
