Honorary degree citation - Miriam Roland

By: Dr. Virginia Penhune, November 2018

Mr. Chancellor, it is my honour to present to you Ms. Miriam Roland, psychotherapist, communitarian and dedicated philanthropist.

Ms. Roland’s commitment to community service and her contributions to the advancement of education are exemplary. They were instilled in her at home as a child, she says. “The same way we eat three meals a day, we give to those in need.”

Son souci inné pour autrui et l’importance qu’elle accorde au contact personnel trouvent un exutoire dans sa pratique de la psychothérapie et son engagement soutenu auprès d’organismes à vocation sociale du Canada et des États-Unis.

At Concordia, she’s championed mandatory business ethics courses for JMSB graduate students and small class sizes in our EV Complex. The Miriam Aaron Roland Graduate Fellowships she established earlier this year are the latest in a long line of generous gestures that benefit students and the broader public.

With the Fellowships, as she’s said, she’s giving opportunity. In this and so many other ways, Miriam Roland’s attitudes and acts match the Concordia ethos.

Mr. Chancellor, on behalf of Senate and the Board of Governors, it is my privilege and honour to present to you Ms. Miriam Roland, so that you may confer upon her the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
