First‑order differential equations, linear and separable equations, integrating factors, applications. Second‑order linear differential equations. Fundamental solutions, linear independence, Wronskian. Nonhomogeneous equations, general solution, method of undetermined coefficients, variation of parameters, applications. Power‑series solutions of differential equations, examples. Systems of first‑order linear equations. Review of linear algebra, diagonalization of matrices, eigenvalues.

Condensed Matter Physics II (PHYS 468/637), Winer 2026

Introduction to the problem of many-electron interactions by introducing second quantization notation and mean-field theory as an approximation to solve complex many-body problems. Mean-field theory of magnets and superconductors. Semi-classical and quantum theory of transport in quantum systems (Boltzmann's and Landauer's equations). Integer and fractional quantum Hall effects.
