Ke Wang

Thesis supervisor: Mia Consalvo

Ke Wang is a PhD student in Communication Studies at Concordia University, supervised by Mia Consalvo. He holds a Master of Information and a Master of Museum Studies from the University of Toronto, where he concentrated on Library & Information Science and Culture & Technology. His earlier academic training includes a degree in Pharmaceutics from Zhejiang University and graduate studies in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto.

His research brings critical game studies into conversation with information studies, museum studies, and digital humanities. He examines how historical videogames construct accounts of the past, and how players interpret, circulate, and contest those accounts through practices such as modding and wiki editing. He is particularly interested in how games establish historical authority and whose knowledge becomes visible in that process.

Alongside this work, he uses research-creation to explore how game mechanics shape access to information, ethical judgment, and understandings of responsibility. His broader interests include playable exhibits and the possibilities for museums and libraries to engage with games and the communities around them.
