Congratulations on receiving your Mitacs award! Once you have received your official outcome letter, you will need to complete several key steps to prepare for your research project at Concordia and receive your funding. Use the checklist below to ensure a smooth transition before your departure.

Once you receive your official approval letter from Mitacs, follow the steps below to prepare for your project and receive your funding.
You are responsible for ensuring all requirements are met and submitting the necessary documentation to both Concordia International and Mitacs.
Pre-departure & arrival steps for Globalink Research Award interns coming to Concordia
1. Register for pre-departure orientation
Register for an online pre-departure orientation session hosted by Concordia International to prepare for your arrival in Montreal.
2. Follow the Concordia academic visitor process
- You will be coming to Concordia as an academic visitor. Ensure you follow the academic visitor process.
- Once the academic visitor approval process is complete, Concordia’s immigration specialist will reach out to you directly with instructions and your official Concordia invitation letter.
Important: Avoid booking flights until you receive guidance from the immigration specialist. Immigration Canada evaluates each application individually; obtaining all necessary travel and immigration documents for your stay in Montreal is your responsibility, though Concordia will support you throughout the process.
3. Prepare for life in Montreal
- You are responsible for finding housing for your research internship at Concordia in Montreal, Canada.

4. Request access to Concordia services & facilities
Upon arrival, email academic-access@concordia.ca and attach a copy of your Concordia invitation letter to arrange access to campus facilities and services.
5. Receive your award payment
After arriving in Canada, open a Canadian bank account and apply for your Social Insurance Number (SIN).
Complete the online payment form once your account and SIN are set up.
Concordia International will send a pre-filled payment authorization form for both you and your host supervisor to sign. Award funds are transferred electronically directly to your Canadian bank account.
Important notice regarding project changes
You must notify both Mitacs and Concordia International immediately of any changes affecting your research project—including date adjustments, major project modifications, or changes to intern or supervisor eligibility.
