Winston Kan has worked in both the private and public sectors, specializing in international trade with a focus on Asia since 1992.

Originally from Hong Kong, Winston Kan came to Concordia in 1978 where he earned his Bachelor of Administration in 1981.

He served as a representative on the University Senate and the Commerce and Administration (now John Molson School of Business) Faculty Council. He was also very involved with the Concordia Chapter of the International Association of Students in Economics and Commerce (AIESEC), and later AIESEC Canada.

He co-founded Concordia alumni chapters in Beijing and Shanghai in 2004 and 2006, respectively, and continues to support the university’s fundraising initiatives via the Concordia University Hong Kong Foundation Limited and the Campaign for Concordia: Next-Gen. Now as part of the Beijing chapter.

As managing director of the Alberta Beijing Office co-located at the Embassy of Canada to China in Beijing and a counsellor at the embassy, Kan devotes most of his time to attracting Chinese investments in Alberta; promoting Alberta’s energy, agriculture, education, technology and tourism sectors; and helping the province’s companies do business in China.

Kan has worked for Hewlett-Packard Canada, EHC Global and the Royal Canadian Mint before being posted to China in 2004 by Export Development Canada.
