Chancellor's Builder

There’s only a certain amount of money one needs in life. After that, I believe in giving back to society.

J. Sebastian van Berkom, BComm 69, LLD 17, has transformed the small-cap investment space with his acumen and vision.

His legacy at Concordia has been to inspire future investors and business thinkers through mentorship, support for endowments and scholarships, and — most notably — gifts. His philanthropy has helped establish and sustain two key programs at the John Molson School of Business: the Van Berkom JMSB Small-Cap Case Competition and the Van Berkom Investment Management Program

Sebastian van Berkom, BComm 69, LLD 17, a major donor to the Campaign for Concordia: Next-Gen Now, and the visionary benefactor behind two impactful programs at the John Molson School of Business: the Van Berkom Investment Management Program (VBIMP) and Van Berkom-John Molson Small-Cap Case Competition.

Concordia’s brightest business students will have a rare opportunity to become elite investors — using real money — thanks to a $1 million donation from alumnus J. Sebastian van Berkom.
One of a kind in Canada: The Van Berkom - JMSB Small-Cap Case Competition provides business students with an opportunity to showcase their ability to analyze financial business cases, develop strategic recommendations and apply the academic skills they have gained in the classroom.
