Michael Abril
Photography
At the heart of Michael's photographic practice lies a sustained interest in the human experience. By embracing the intimacy of the photographic medium, he builds attentive, thoughtful relationships with his subjects. Shaped by his Latin American roots and immigrant experience, his work engages with migration, aging, loss, social struggle, and the passage of time. Through photography, Abril seeks to reveal the emotional landscape of being human.
Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, and based in Montreal since 2008, Michael has over 12 years of experience in documentary, editorial, and storytelling photography. In 2025, he began a Studio Arts MFA at Concordia University, focusing on critical inquiry and collaborative exploration to further develop his artistic practice within contemporary art photography.
