Antoine Giroux
Photography
My practice gives humanity to objects, scenes, and overlooked details, linking them to portraiture that reflects coming-of-age and the collective human experience. I am drawn to moments where identity shifts. Permutations of gender, emotional transitions, and the subtle agency in how we look at the world. Rather than constructing artificial beauty by staging a scene, I seek what quietly exists in front of me.
Photography becomes a contemplative tool: a way to explore senses, textures, and emotions through atmospheric images, still life and collaborative portraits with subjects who inhabit a state of continuous transitions. These pictures embody the fleeting passage of time and the longing for something more. I let stillness and mundaneness be seen as memories worth living for, moments where forgotten beauty emerges into consciousness.
Antoine Giroux is an artist currently doing his MFA in Photography at Concordia University. Through wandering and idleness, his work presents a poetic sublime grounded in the everyday, offering a narrative shaped by the viewer’s own perspective and gaining meaning through contemplation.
