Florence Babin-Beaudry

Photography

Somewhere between documentary and staging, my photography explores the psychic dimension of death and absence. It's not about valuing the grief or trauma behind the event, but rather about addressing the feelings of ambiguity that emerge from these intangible spaces. I'm interested in what manifests on different planes of consciousness during experiences such as near-death-experiences, coma or abortion. My approach consists of interviewing people who have had such experiences and photographing them in sets inspired by their stories. Through staging, I seek to reveal the subtle forms of ambivalence that can emerge from both the living and the non-living.

My perspective lies at the intersection of scientific research and spiritual human experience. Concerned by the silence surrounding these subjects in the social sphere, my photography is committed to transforming our relationship to death and conveying the innate beauty of the human condition.
