Viviane Saglier

Lecturer in the Department of Film Studies at the University of St Andrews

Viviane’s research is concerned with the politics of film culture in the Arab world from the 1950s until today. She pays particular attention to how post/colonial, anticolonial, and neoliberal logics organize film aesthetics and infrastructures. She is working on two book projects: The first one follows the formation of a film culture in Palestine after the Second Intifada and its entanglement with the double logics of colonization and development. The second project theorises the anticolonial icon as an index of Arab film infrastructures across history. She regularly collaborates on curatorial projects around Arab cinema and video art as well as political documentaries.
