Julia is an award-winning Los Angeles-based correspondent with CNN, reporting on major national and international stories. In the United States, she has covered the 2025 Southern California wildfires, sweeping federal immigration enforcement actions across the country, and disinformation surrounding the 2020 presidential election. In her native Brazil, she has reported on the storming of the capital and its political aftermath, the rise of far-right extremists, and child labor and environmental issues in the Amazon.
Julia’s work has earned some of journalism’s highest honors, including a 2021 News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Breaking News Coverage as part of the CNN team covering the death of George Floyd, and an Edward R. Murrow Award for Continuing Coverage of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico in 2018. She also holds a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
