Jean-François Bégin

GrDip 97

Jean-François is managing editor at La Presse, where he has built an impressive career spanning over two decades. A law graduate from Laval University, Bégin joined La Presse as an intern in 1997 and was hired permanently during the 1998 ice storm crisis. His wide-ranging career includes healthcare reporting, a three-year stint as a London-based freelancer alongside his wife, columnist Isabelle Hachey, and nearly a decade as a sports columnist covering three Olympics and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Bégin's editorial leadership trajectory includes serving as sports editor and general news editor before working as a national correspondent in 2015-16. He returned to management in 2016, bringing his legal background and decades of reporting experience to his current role at one of Quebec's leading newspapers. His combination of frontline journalism and editorial leadership has definitively shaped his approach to news coverage.
