Safia Ahmad

BA 15, GrDip 17

Safia is the Senior Manager of Content Strategy and Innovation for the Montreal Canadiens, earning her NHL “call-up” in January 2021 after a season with the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Laval Rocket. She previously served as media relations manager for Les Canadiennes, a team in the former Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL). Her journey began at Concordia, where she honed her craft at The Link student newspaper, contributing to sports coverage and co-hosting the Press Box Hat Trick podcast in 2017–2018. While completing her Graduate Diploma in Journalism, Safia took part in a Concordia Journalism/CBC Montreal collaboration exploring Montreal communities in the lead-up to the city’s 375th anniversary. She also interned at the Montreal Gazette and has freelanced for The Athletic, Vice Québec, Journal Saint-Lambert, and The Eastern Door. From 2018 to 2021, she produced and co-hosted the Away from the Play podcast with former CWHL player Melanie Desrochers. Safia’s background in psychology and journalism converged at Concordia to shape the perspective she now brings to one of hockey’s most storied franchises, helping it connect with its passionate fan base.
