Caline Nasrallah

Thesis supervisor: Alessandra Renzi

Caline Nasrallah is a PhD student in Communication Studies at Concordia University in Montréal. She holds an MA in Islamic Studies, with a concentration in Gender and Women’s Studies, from McGill University, and an MA in Translation and Writing from Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth.

Her doctoral research examines women’s oral histories of war and political struggle in Lebanon, with particular attention to how historical knowledge is produced, mediated, and transmitted through archives.

Working at the intersection of oral history, feminist and decolonial scholarship, translation studies, and media studies, she investigates how testimony is transformed as it moves between languages and media, including audio recordings, written transcripts, and audiovisual works.

She is particularly interested in the ethical and methodological challenges of representing dimensions of oral testimony that resist transcription and translation, such as silence, hesitation, and affect.

Her research also explores the possibilities of listening and research-creation as practices through which to critically engage with archives, challenge dominant historical narratives, and imagine alternative ways of preserving and communicating memories of violence.
