Amanda Purcell
Therapeutic Recreation (BA) 21
After graduating from Concordia’s undergraduate program in Therapeutic Recreation (TR), Amanda pursued a career working with individuals with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. As a former paramedic, giving back to this community and other first responders needing mental health care was deeply important to her. While working as a CTRS for the Edgewood Health Network, Amanda created the first leisure and recreation program for the organization, which included an Equine-Assisted Learning program for veterans, active military members, and first responders. She also obtained a MA Certificate in Mental Health and Addictions from Dalhousie University during this time.
Though she is currently taking a break from work to focus on the birth of her second child, Amanda continues to pursue her passions through a MA degree at Yorkville University in Counselling Psychology and hopes to one day open her own practice incorporating TR and counselling.
Amanda looks back fondly on her time at Concordia and the opportunities she was given through her many internship and volunteer experiences. She continues to give back through guest lecturing, supervising students, and her work as a board member of the Quebec Chapter of the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association.
