Biography

Looking to ideas of interdependence, natural systems and language, my studio practice draws connections between phenomena, experience and meaning. I'm inspired by insect swarms, flocks of birds, water systems, poetry and everyday interactions. By collecting, cataloging, arranging and rearranging information I investigate meanings that are woven within the visual material.

Prior to joining the faculty at Concordia University, Adams taught at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston as well as Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. Adams has been an artist-in-residence at the Hall Farm Center for the Arts (Vermont), Frans Masereel Centre (Belgium), the Vermont Studio Center (U.S.), Penland School for Crafts (U.S.), Djerassi (U.S.), AIR Serenbe (U.S.), Atelier Imago (NB) and NSCAD (N.S.). Adams recently published Pickles I have known, Volume II: Tales of Fermentation, a fine-press project. Her research has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
