A native of Montreal, Madeleine Thériault studied both jazz and classical music. She graduated with honors from Concordia University and then earned a Master of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance from the University of Miami. She participated in many jazz workshops headed by influential figures such as Joe Henderson, Pat Metheny, Mark Murphy, Betty Carter.

 

Madeleine has been teaching at Concordia University since 1994. Courses she teaches include the jazz vocal repertoire class, jazz aural perception, private study jazz voice, music history, and the Concordia Jazz Choir. She also founded and directed the Mcgill Jazz Choir from 2002 till 2010 and taught at Laval University at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She gives master classes to visiting schools and adjudicates.


An accomplished vocalist and arranger, she has been featured nationally on CBC Radio and has appeared in several premier venues. Credits include performances with some of Canada’s top jazz musicians: Wray Downes, Richard Ring, Normand Guilbeault, Pierre Tanguay, Charles Ellison, Dave Turner, James Gelfand, Michel Donato, the Andrew Homzy Jazz Orchestra. Her self-produced CD Eclipse was well received by critics both here and abroad.
