Biography

Taro Abarbanel-Uemura is an accomplished marketing consultant and serial entrepreneur. He founded Fortified Marketing, an Ottawa-based marketing agency that specialized in strategic marketing consulting. Having worked with ballistics gear retailers, recruiting agencies, artificial intelligence companies, virtual reality psychology laboratories, sales offices and more, Taro has developed marketing strategies and helped implement marketing plans for many private-sector and public-sector clients from across Canada.

Having completed his BCom & MBA at the University of Ottawa, Taro is a proud Telfer alumnus. During his MBA, he partook in many case competitions, always leading his team to podium finishes. As a testament to his exceptional academic track record, leadership and engagement at the university, Taro was named Valedictorian for the University of Ottawa’s graduating class of 2017. He delivered a Valedictorian address to over 2000 convocation attendees.

In 2017, Taro began a promising career in academia teaching at two of the top business schools in Canada. He is a Professor at the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management and Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business in Montreal. There, he teaches Marketing Strategy, Promotional Planning, Digital Marketing and Business Communications. His teaching style and philosophy are heavily influenced by his professional background and recent student experience. He leverages his youth and enthusiasm to connect with his students, all while drawing upon his extensive background and know-how to provide them with an enriching educational experience.

Taro gives back by remaining involved in case competitions. He was appointed the marketing case writer and judge for the 2018 MBA Games, an annual competition where MBA schools from across Canada compete in academic and sporting events. He regularly coaches Jeux du Commerce and Happening Marketing case teams and was named Telfer’s Case Coach of the Year in 2019. Taro has fulfilled the Lead Judge role twice over at the John Molson School of Business’s MBA International Case Competition, which hosts the top MBA schools from 21 different countries, the largest of its kind in the world.

In 2021, Taro embarked on a new venture co-founding The Psychology Klinic (Klinic de psychologie), a modern mental health clinic in the heart of Gatineau. Klinic’s team of committed Psychologists (called Klinicians) accompanies and empowers Klients to better manage their anxiety and depression and nurture their mental wellbeing using proven psychological approaches. The Psychology Klinic has quickly garnered local brand awareness due to its choice location, warm atmosphere and considerate as well as seamless, tech-driven service.
