Research interests

Ph.D research: Having Christian dogma and the social sciences as its foci, my project suggests interpretation as a necessary corrective to the contemporary theology-culture dialogue. The interpretative act (now with a growing acceptance of its reality in social theory) has, arguably, the potential to shift the dialogue from its current conflicted impasse towards a new and collaborative ideal.

Teaching interests

Underlying my research and my teaching interests is a concern with the privatization (and hence the marginalization) of theology. I try to bring to my classes a sense of how theology has shaped and has in turn, been shaped by culture. I emphasize that religious faith and pluralist culture are not the "two solitudes" of modernity's halcyon days, but rather they represent aspects of our one human (albeit challenging) reality.
