Dissertation

“Supply Chain Risk Management via Operational and Financial Hedging”. Proposal defended November 2010.

Abstract:  Companies adopting supply chain strategies are significantly improving their performances. However, these companies are exposed to various sources of risk associated with their supply chain operations. For example, a manufacturing firm would decrease its raw material and components inventory after building a partnership-like relationship with its suppliers. This low inventory significantly reduces the holding cost but increases the shortage risk. Moreover, such companies have international suppliers and customers which expose them to significant sources of uncertainties like currency exchange rates and commodities prices. Supply chain risk management entails both operational and financial hedging techniques to mitigate the risks. The current literature contains only a limited number of studies that combine the two techniques. Our research is intended to fill this gap by exploring the effects of the integrated operational and financial hedging techniques on the supply chain performance.
