Justine Bellefeuille

Sculpture and Ceramics

As a sculptor and dancer, Justine Bellefeuille explores the potential of materials to generate movement, particularly through clay and ceramics. She is interested in the choreographic potential of sculptural objects, which she views as tools that influence the body's actions.

Justine explores the unpredictable and forced material encounters as generators of contrasts, atmospheres, and rhythms. By creating objects with different sensory affects, she seeks to understand the constraints imposed by these creations and the influence of their shapes, weights, textures, and resistance on movement. The sculptures she creates redefine the possibilities of the body and participate in a cycle where object, body, and dance influence and propel each other. They then generate movement and become choreographic scores.

Originally from Trois-Rivières, Justine Bellefeuille holds two majors from Concordia University: one in contemporary dance and the other in studio arts. Supported by the Dale & Nick Tedeschi Studio Arts Fellowship, she is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts (Sculpture and Ceramics) there. Her work has been presented at Culture Trois-Rivières (Créations inattendues, 2024), Interzone (2023), and Tangente Danse (2022). Her artistic work has received support from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec as part of the L'étendue des murmures project. She is also the recipient of the Prix de la relève Godro (Culture Trois-Rivières, 2024) and the Prix Élan créatif (Culture Mauricie, 2023).
