Geneviève Dagenais
Sculpture and Ceramics
Sculptor Geneviève Dagenais explores notions of imprint and transmutation primarily through ceramics and textiles. Her practice is grounded in an embodied relationship with material, where the body functions as tool, measure, and affective space. She is interested in the sensory, symbolic, and affective charges of mediums associated with domesticity and feminine knowledge, seeking to generate a physical and perceptual experience of objects.
Through processes of sewing and molding applied to materials in transitional states, her works retain traces of gestures and transformations. Acting as sensitive bodies, they carry vulnerability, memory, and the imprint of time, activating tactile, kinesthetic, and proprioceptive perception.
Geneviève Dagenais is currently pursuing her master’s degree with the support of the Dale & Nick Tedeschi Studio Arts Fellowship and the Graduate Studio Arts Advisory Committee Award. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from UQAM (2022) where she received the Thomas Corriveau and Mario Côté Prize for excellence and a scholarship from the Fonds de la Faculté des arts. Her work has been shown at the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul, Galerie C and in various group show such as Artch (Coup de Coeur Loto-Quebec - 2021), Arprim (Albert Dumouchel Award -2022), Circa Art actuel, Centre d’art Diane Dufresne and Livart.
