Theo Stojanov
Instructional Design and Media Production, Office of the Associate Provost / Teaching and Academic Planning, McGill University
With a background in classical music and media production from McGill’s renowned "Tonmeister" program in sound recording, Theo Stojanov has worked as an audio engineer and editor in the gaming industry and in film post-production in both the Netherlands and Canada. Following a period of service in the Canadian Armed Forces, he returned to academia and completed a PhD on the sociology of cultural production. His research interests span fandom, propaganda, ethnography, psychological operations, and fiction writing. In the 2010s, he organized a series of conferences on film and democracy in Myanmar, where he witnessed firsthand the operations of global soft power and its complex interplay with local customs and modes of life—experiences that shaped his doctoral thesis, Globally Everywhere: Production Cultures of Localization. His published work has appeared in Mediapolis and the Canadian Journal of Communication. He supports independent writing and publishing, and is currently exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping higher education, as well as the acquisition and production of knowledge.
