About Khoa

Khoa came to Canada from Vietnam to pursue higher education. After earning a degree in finance and working in the industry for three years, he returned to school to study computer science. As a member of the Concordia Institute for Cooperative Education, he has completed internships at big companies such as CAE, contributing to building simulation training products for healthcare professionals. Khoa was awarded the Broccolini Construction Undergraduate Bursary in Building Engineering in 2019 and a Carolyn and Richard Renaud Bursary in 2020. Off campus, he works as a payment specialist at Sun Life Financial where he supports the federal government with their ongoing project for collective agreement settlements.

His one piece of advice for peers...

School is not just about the grades. Take the time to make friends, hang out (virtually for now) and enjoy the experience.

Three keys to his academic success

  • Have a study schedule and stick to it. It will help you avoid procrastination.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Ask your professors. Ask your teaching assistants. Ask your friends.
  • Health is also very important. Make sure you take breaks, get enough sleep, have hobbies — having a healthy mind is key to a good education.

Two study tips

  • Be resourceful — the internet is your best friend, especially in computer science.
  • Be organized with your time and tasks. Having a visual agenda with important dates will help you stay on top of your classes.

Khoa's next big goal

Pursuing cloud engineering and ready to move out of province/country for job opportunities once the pandemic is over.
