Fibres and Material Practices
Faced with a materially and informationally saturated world, I am compelled to investigate how and to what end we respond to that which constantly accumulates. Within my practice, I manipulate fragments of the excess generated by everyday living to create tactile repositories for such amassments. I use quilting, patchwork, appliqué, weaving, knotting, folding, bookmaking, and collage to re-organize by-products of my relationships and experiences, often in a rhythm of subtraction and addition. Through the work, I contend with my impulse to “make use” of what amasses over time, and reckon with ideas of containment, connection, record-keeping, and release.
