ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

What makes a good academic leader? And why does it matter?

The Academic Leadership Institute at Concordia is a multidisciplinary centre devoted to fostering a collective vision for next-generation academic leadership.

Inspired by the lofty traditions of academic thought and practice, the Institute is guided by three core principles.

  • Academic leadership is an intellectual endeavour.
  • Leadership is a moral enterprise.
  • Good leadership is practical.

We believe academic leadership is worthy of our intellectual curiosity. Join us in our effort to draw a roadmap to the future of higher learning.

Summer program

Our 4.5-day, case-based program is the cornerstone of our vision to reimagine higher learning by reimagining academic leadership. Our inaugural summer program was offered from:

July 2 – 6, 2019

Today’s academic leader must build institutions in the face of unprecedented shifts in global higher education and are tasked with rethinking higher education from the ground up.

Practicing thoughtful, reflective and deliberate academic leadership is key to the university fulfilling its role as an engaged institutional citizen—and to delivering on higher education’s promise to the next generation.

The Institute proposes a combination of tailored leadership development programs, applied research and a forum for peer-learning and collective reflection on best practices. We cultivate a conversational, practical and intergenerational approach.

We believe that administrative service is a legitimate and integral part of 21st-century academic careers—and as worthy of our intellectual curiosity as any other academic practice.
