Dr. Recchia's research focuses on how children's social and moral development occur in the context of their close relationships with parents, siblings, and friends. She is especially interested in how children make sense of and resolve conflicts with others. She is currently accepting graduate students in the MA in Child Studies and PhD in Education programs.

Research interests

How do children make sense of conflict in different relationships, and how do these experiences change with age?

How are unique features of children’s close relationships with siblings and friends related to how children understand and resolve conflict with each partner?

How do children of different ages describe their experiences of forgiveness and nonforgiveness when they are victimized by others?

How is children’s sociomoral development related to their experiences with violence and injustice?

How is exposure to violence related to children’s accounts of their conflict experiences?

How do experiences of war and political conflict affect children’s sociomoral development?

How can socialization agents such as parents and educators help to further the development of children’s sociomoral understandings?

How do conversations with mothers about experiences of conflict serve as contexts for moral development?

What is the role of educators in supporting children’s ethical development?
