René Fleury will join Concordia as the new Director of IT Portfolio and Project Management for Instructional and Information Technology Services (IITS) on December 12. In this role, he will be responsible for leading the IT Project Management Office (PMO) in alignment with institutional priorities, including the development of project business cases.

“I am very pleased to join Concordia University and am highly motivated at the idea of applying my experience in project management to the field of education,” Fleury says.

With more than 25 years in the IT field, Fleury has worked in project management for large organizations such as Standard Life, SSQ Insurance, Blue Cross and Equisoft. Over the duration of his career, Fleury has created and implemented project management offices and led teams of project managers responsible for the delivery of IT solutions for various clients in Canada and internationally.

He has participated in a wide variety of projects involving product functionality changes, business process optimization, implementation of digitized environments and acquisition of expert software packages.

Fluently bilingual, Fleury’s academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in actuarial mathematics from Université de Montréal.

“I am very pleased to welcome René to Concordia and to my team,” says France Bigras, associate vice-president of information systems and chief information officer. “In addition to bringing solid experience and expertise in portfolio and project management, René is a good listener and has a good sense of humour.”

Moving forward

The current director of IT Portfolio and Project Management, Sylvain Picard, will support Fleury in his new role to ensure a successful integration before leaving Concordia for retirement in February 2023.

“I would like to sincerely thank Sylvain for his incredible work over the past three years in building the foundation of a solid project management office,” adds Bigras.
