Research Interests

I have broad interests in ancient Greco-Roman philosophy from the pre-Socratics to the Patristics, but my current projects focus on Aristotle's metaphysics and natural philosophy, especially his modal ontology, his conception of nature, and his non-substantial mereology.

Teaching activities

Courses

PHIL260: Pre-Socratics and Plato
PHIL261: Aristotle and the Hellenistics
PHIL482/612: Seminar in Ancient Philosophy (mixed undergraduate/graduate)

In Fall 2023, the seminar focused on Aristotle's treatise On the Generation of Animals and related texts. Themes discussed included Aristotle's account of natural teleology, sexual difference, and heredity.

In 2024/2025, the seminar will trace the conception of the will in ancient Greco-Roman philosophy from Plato to the Patristics.
