Christine Stocek is a PhD candidate in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education at McGill University. For over 10 years she has worked and lived in First Nations and Inuit communities in Northern Quebec. Currently Stocek is conducting a participatory action research project in the Cree Nation of Wemindji, which led to the newly formed Wemindji Traditional Artists Association. She is involved in several local initiatives, including the participatory evaluation of COOL or Challenge Our Own Limits after school program and development of an in-service training program for Cree youth workers. Stocek is interested in the pedagogy of art educators and alternative forms of adult education with a Freirian base. A key focus in all her work with Aboriginal peoples is the improvement of research collaborations by developing decolonizing partnerships in the support of self-determination.
