Biography

Susan G. Scott is a Montreal-born painter whose education as an artist was largely based in New York and Boston in the years when abstract expressionism dominated the scene. She and a small group of her colleagues bucked the trend, moving into the area of figurative painting, exploring the currency of subject matter throughout the progress of the modern and postmodern movements. Her work is deeply based in art-historical technique and a relentless questioning of the nature and relevancy of subject matter, as well as the role of the artist in contemporary life.
