Biography

Gabriela Petrov is a faculty member in the School of Performance and a doctoral researcher developing critical somatic pedagogies as frameworks for performance research-creation. Her somatic practice is informed by her training as a certified Somatic Movement Educator (SME) in Body-Mind Centering®. She has taught artists independently and at institutions including McGill University and Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, where she earned her MFA in Contemporary Performance.

For fifteen years, Gabi has engaged with postmodern performance practices, including Mary Overlie's Six Viewpoints. Her artistic work draws on somatic movement and improvisation to investigate how we inhabit spaces of performance and everyday life. As a research associate with the Performative Urbanism Lab for Spatial, Social and Scenographic Experimentation (PULSE), she has expanded this inquiry to explore embodied encounters with emerging technologies.
