Indigenous Directions Leadership Council seeks student members

August 20, 2020
|

The Indigenous Directions Leadership Council (IDLC) is seeking candidates to fill two vacancies for student members — one undergraduate and one graduate student.

The council positions are open to eligible First Nations, Métis and Inuit students who have the time, energy and interest in helping the IDLC meet the goals of Concordia’s Indigenous Directions Action Plan.

The IDLC is the governing council that oversees the implementation of the university's Indigenous Directions Action Plan. Its membership is composed of Indigenous faculty, staff and students who meet on a monthly basis to provide updates on progress, discuss issues and solutions related to the implementation of goals and examine ways to further decolonization and indigenization at Concordia.

In accordance with the IDLC’s Terms of Reference, student members are appointed for renewable terms of one academic year.

Student members are expected to participate in the monthly meetings of the IDLC and will be compensated at the rate of $50 for every IDLC meeting they attend, provided they are not otherwise compensated by Concordia University.

Students who are also regular or full-time employees of the university will not be compensated for attending meetings.

When full day retreats or other major events are planned, student members will be fairly compensated for their participation.

Eligibility Criteria

Specific requirements and qualifications for student members are the following:

  • Candidates must identify as a member of a First Nations, Métis or Inuit community.
  • Candidates must be registered Concordia University students in good academic standing.
  • Candidates must possess a sound knowledge of the realities, challenges, concerns and issues faced by Indigenous post-secondary students.
  • Candidates must have the ability to work effectively within a team environment towards common goals.

Proof of Indigenous identity may be required.

Expression of Interest

Eligible students are invited to submit a short letter (300 words maximum) expressing their interest in joining the IDLC and confirming their eligibility for the role.

The IDLC will carefully review and assess all expressions of interest received and present chosen candidates with an appointment offer.

Please email your expression of interest to indigenous.directions@concordia.ca.

The application deadline is August 31, 2020.
