A mission of the John Molson School of Business is to be one of the world’s most relevant, responsible and respected business schools. This year, the school is welcoming four new tenure-track professors who will help further this goal.
“The incoming faculty show overwhelming potential in contributing to social impact in local and global communities,” notes Anne-Marie Croteau, dean of the John Molson School of Business.
“Their signature areas of expertise will excite and engage our students in innovative teaching and research activities. I know they will inspire action across the school.”
Kai DeMott is coming on board as assistant professor in the Department of Accountancy after earning his PhD from the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden. His interdisciplinary accounting research uses qualitative methods and adopts the perspective of accounting as social and institutional practice. His main empirical interest lies in areas where “things are hard to measure” — such as creativity, innovation and megaprojects — where he studies issues of management control. Before going into academia, DeMott worked as a banking professional in Germany.
Sumin Song joins the Department of Supply Chain and Business Technology Management as assistant professor. She completed her PhD in management information systems at McGill University, where she taught systems analysis and modelling courses. Digital platforms and digital innovation are at the heart of her research. Song studies gamification design to make an impact on user engagement. Her teaching and research are shaped by diverse and inclusive perspectives gained through working in both public and private IT sectors across the globe for more than seven years.
